Throughtout history, all types of books have been writtin. Their authors may rarely write for their fans. They write because its what they love to do. Sometimes books have sequels. Sometimes, they turn into trilogies. In the case of Julius “Juse Dayne” McCormack the talented author writes not only because he loves music, but because like a frozen computer, Hip-Hop needs to be refreshed.
Hailing from the 7 Cities in Virginia (by way of Camden, NJ) Juse Dayne, a.k.a Juse Jetson, is no stranger to the rap game. He definitely proves that in the release of his first mixtape, “Book 1: Informal Introduction”. Now before we get into the mixtape, lets take a little look at how it all started.
(Cue violin music. Ok, not really, but you can hum in your head)
Juse was introduced to music at an early age while living in New Jersey. Just like a normal child, he would pop in tapes and record songs or listen to some of his favorite artists (Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, Redman, and Tupac). What changed Juse from being normal was when he began to run “packs” before school to try to help with financial burdens. Music couldn’t save him from the projects and becoming a product of his environment. The projects didn’t want him to have a chance at life, but his mother knew her son was and would be more. They relocated to Hampton, VA and life as he knew it would change forever. No more “slanging street pharmaceuticals on the corner.”
“It truly goes to show you everyday of your life is different. More than anything, I’m thankful I was given the opportunity to get out when I could. Not everyone is blessed enough to say that” says Dayne.
(End violin music or stop humming)
Now into the mixtape we shall go.
Lyrical exercises over industry beats show that he Dayne is definitely about his business and getting his weight up and his name out. This is the first of three releases in what will be an epic adventure over the next three months for him. All of the releases are exactly 33 days apart. So that got me to thinking, “hmmmm, whats up with all these 3s?”
Via a BBM conversastion (blackberry messenger for you iPhone and Droid users), Juse explained his logic of three. “3 is known as a perfect number in history because its the first and only number that equals the sum of the prior two numbers.” Good answer right? Wait, there’s more. The metaphor assassin goes on to explain how the number relates to this project. “A trilogy is a set of 3 works that are connected as these are. You have the intro, the light hearted tape, and the personal tape…I stayed in theme with 11 tracks each, 33 [in] total and 33 was, as history suggests, the perfect day.”
The first track I heard from Juse was over the “Popular Demand” beat that put VA’s dynamic duo, The Clipse, back on the scene. But that’s not the only bangin beat to grace the track. Juse also lets it be known that he should “Run This Town” with a few versuses over the track made famous by the Jay-Z, Kanye, and Rihanna.
In its entirety, I must say that book one of this trilogy sets the pace for the future releases. Like the Twilight series (don’t judge me, you don’t know my life), I can only see each outting get better and better. If you don’t believe me, you don’t have to take my word for it. “I love music. Listening to it. Critiquing it. Making it. Honestly, it really doesn’t matter. I don’t know where I will end up when it’s all said and done. But I’ve got stories and life lessons I have to speak on before I decide to call it quits,” says Dayne. The other release dates are April 5 and May 8. If you don’t know by now, its time to GET FAMILIAR!
